Potoula Diaz LMHC, LMFT, CAP
Licensed Mental Health Counselor,
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Certified Addictions Professional
Potoula first became an LMHC and practiced in the field in that capacity for over 11 years holding various professional positions. However she primarily found herself being a therapist for families and adults with crises in their lives, relationship problems, anxiety, depression, trauma and stress. Then she decided that she would like to learn more in depth about families and couples, so she became an LMFT in 2011. In 2015 she became a CAP and has learned so much about addiction that she uses with many of her clients. Potoula is a Clinical Supervisor with the state of Florida and specializes in treating anxiety, depression, relationship and family conflicts, addictions, and trauma and abuse. In 2022 she completed Level 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and uses Gottman Method Couples Therapy in her work with couples.
Potoula’s therapy style is eclectic, picking useful elements from various theoretical schools and philosophies, but she draws mostly on Cognitive Behavioral and Solution Focused approaches. She feels they work very well for many people and also they complement her personal style and theories about change and growth.
Potoula feels she is lucky to be able to work as a therapist. She approaches each new client with enthusiasm and curiosity, and being prepared to learn from each new person she meets. She believes that forming a strong positive relationship with your therapist is the most important factor in how well you will do in therapy, so it is vital that you take the time to pick someone with whom you feel comfortable and someone who makes you feel heard and cared for. She enjoys helping people and is confident that with all her experience and skills and her natural empathy and passion for helping, she can make a difference in the life of any person who is struggling with a problem or challenge in life.
Life can be difficult, but with her help you can feel better and make some personal changes that you will be proud of! And, the biggest compliment she can receive as a therapist is – you helped me think better, you helped me learn how to think critically and in a different way. She looks forward to helping you do that too!
